Taxi fares in Milan are high compared to those in American cities, but drivers are honest. A short downtown ride will come to about EUR 15. Taxis wait at stands, or can be called at one of the numbers listed below. Dispatchers may speak some English; they'll ask for the phone number you're calling from, and they'll tell you the number of your taxi and how many minutes your wait will be. If you're in a restaurant or bar, ask the staff to call a cab for you. It's not customary to flag taxis down in the street, but drivers do sometimes stop if you hail them.
