To most of us Italian art means Renaissance art. But the 20th century in Italy was a productive—if less-well-known—era. Just a block behind the Corso Buenos Aires shopping area, the Museo Boschi-di Stefano is a tribute to the enlightened private collectors who replaced popes and nobles as Italian patrons. An apartment on the second floor of a stunning art deco building designed by Milan architect Portaluppi houses this private collection, which was donated to the city of Milan in 2003. Its walls burst with masterpieces by postwar greats, such as Fontana, De Chirico, and Morandi, collected by the Boschi-di Stefano couple. The works mingle with distinctive postwar furniture and stunning Murano glass chandeliers.
