Terminus Review

Commanding a panoramic view over Lake Como, this early-20th-century art nouveau building is the city's best hotel. The marbled public spaces have an understated elegance, and the guest rooms are done in floral patterns and furnished with large walnut wardrobes and silk-covered sofas. The 14 rooms added in 2007 are worth requesting—they're bright and fresh, while the remainder can feel dated by comparison. In summer the garden terrace is perfect for relaxing over a drink. Bar delle Terme ($), the candlelit restaurant (closed Tuesday), is worth a trip. The cranberry-hue space, filled with plush velvet sofas, resembles a large living room. The food and service are as fine as the decor. Reservations are strongly advised, as there are only a few tables.
