Frequent and fast train service by the Ferrovie dello Stato (Italian State Railways), also known as Trenitalia, connects Liguria with the rest of Italy. Genoa is 1 1/2 hours from Milan and 5 1/2-6 hours from Rome (4 1/2 with the Eurostar). Many services from France (in particular, the French Riviera) pass along the Ligurian Coast on the way to all parts of Italy.
Within Liguria, it takes two hours for an express train to cover the entire coast; local trains make innumerable stops and take upward of five hours. Regular service operates from Genoa's two stations: departures from Stazione Principe travel to points west and Stazione Brignole to points east and south. All the coastal resorts are on this line.
