Why We Like It

When a hotel does everything right, they deserve praise, and this hotel earns that praise in spades. The bespoke design is modern and chic and the staff is warm, helpful, knowledgeable, and will treat you like family. There’s no nickel and diming here, things like the mini bar and breakfast is simply included in the price. There’s no gym, spa, or pool, but when you come to a small boutique, you can’t expect those things. But with it’s central location and focus on service, J.K. should be at the top of any high-end boutique-hunters list.

Room

All the rooms are individually designed, but what you’ll typically notice are stark white walls, gray carpets, work desks, and stunning views of the Piazza. Make sure to take advantage of the free mini bar and get full use of their portable Wi-Fi devices to take anywhere in the city.

Tip J.K. publishes their own Essential Guide to Florence, which is a great booklet to help you navigate the city.

Bathroom

Large bathrooms have marble tubs, marble floors, brass fittings, towel heaters, and bidets in a separate room. Their self-branded bath products are worth taking home with you.

Lobby

There’s no formal check-in area of the hotel, only hosts and Clef d’Or concierges in a small library-style nook who are there to greet you and help you along with everything the city has to offer. Beyond the nook are hidden and open seating areas where you can drink your morning coffee, sit by the fire, grab a snack, and cozy up with their patented cashmere blankets on cold days.

Tip Don’t miss out on the rooftop terrace – the perfect spot for a romantic interlude or just a lazy day of reading.

Gym

There’s no gym in this small hotel, but they do partner with a local spot and can help prepare a gym bag for you.

Dining

J.K. Lounge is the main dining outlet on the first floor of the hotel that’s open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Breakfast is always included and lunch and dinner feature an array of local products for inventive Italian delicacies. There’s a walled in patio that sits on the edge of the piazza, which is perfect for people watching and late afternoon sips.

Drinking

A small corner bar off the breakfast area is dubbed the J.K. Champagne Bar where a glass of bubbly is always at the ready in addition to free snacks, tea, and coffee throughout the day.

What's Nearby

Getting Around

Walking is the way to go in Florence as the city is tiny and most major attractions, museums, restaurants, bars, and shops are in the city center – which is where the hotel resides. If you want to get out in the country, the train station is only a 5-minute walk from the hotel. Renting a car is tricky because the city has draconian rules that will inevitably end in large fines.

Restaurants

A fun experience can be found at Mercato Centrale (5-minute walk), a large food hall with a dozen different types of Italian cuisine. For authentic Tuscan fare, check out Buca Mario (2-minute walk) just south of the hotel.

Bars

If you eat at Mercato Centrale (5-minute walk) you can stick around for drinks as they have a few wine bars and cocktail spots inside. Close by the market is La Ménagère (5-minute walk), which is a fun local’s spot for cocktails, wine, and occasional live music.
