Pallottino

¢-$, Italian, Santa Croce

User Rating: **** 4.3

Fodor's Review:

With its tiled floor, photograph-filled walls, and wooden tables, Pallottino is the quintessential Tuscan trattoria, with hearty, heartwarming classics such as pappa al pomodoro and peposa alla toscana (beef stew laced with black pepper). The menu changes frequently to reflect what's seasonal; the staff is friendly, as are the diners who often share a table and, eventually, conversation. They also do pizza here, as well as great lunch specials.

Great food, great value!

Possibly our least expensive dinner, but one of the best. Everything from the crostini, to the tomato salad, to the veal was delicious and well-prepared. The atmosphere was that of a trattoria, very simple and casual, but the service was good, and they decanted our wine, which more expensive restaurants failed to do. If you follow our advice and eat here, we also recommend going next door for gelato- try the cafe mousse.

Cheap, Casual and Delicious

I was surprised by the other review here; we really like this place and have had dinner there three different times. It is especially good for authentic Tuscan fare. Loved the pappa al pomodoro, the lasagna, and the lardo shoudl be tried, too. I think this is a great find, and not overrun by tourists at all.
