Alle Murate

Fodor's Review:

Few restaurants can boast that their staff includes an on-site art historian, but at this high-end eatery an expert will walk you around the medieval ruins and point out the building's lovely 14th-century frescoes. Along with a 2005 relocation to this space came a fresh new menu that's strong on Tuscan food with sophisticated variations: try the tagliatelle all'olio nuovo, tonno fresco, e timo (wide noodles with freshly pressed olive oil, tuna, and thyme).

Superb Experience

Alle Murate is now situated in the Palazzo of Judges and Notaries (13th century), as they say - during the day it works as a museum. They even have audioguides. In fact now you can observe only few walls with old frescoes (paintings). But one of these frescoes contain portrets of Dante and Bocacco. As for the food - it's a highest quality quisine - you can try their degustation menu and feel it yourself. But as usually (in Italy) - meat is not very good, just nice. Wine list is rich, try Supertoscans - really good wines. Prices are high, but still a little bit lower than Enoteca Pinocceria. We spent in Alle Murate the whole 2007-08 New Year evening in a company of 6 persons - the bill was abt 1300 euro. Still I recommend trying this restaurant at least once :-)

A lot of hype but little substance

Went to Alle Murate with great expectations but came out quite disappointed. Ordered the tasting menu which should have had the best food on the menu but while it started well it was progressively down hill from there. There is better food in Florence at a quarter of the price. Skip it!

Food fair, price high

We thought the food was quite ordinary for the prices. Had the tasting menu, so tried numerous different items. We were expecting food with complex flavors, but were very disappointed.
