Livia Puccinelli Sannini, the descendant of a famed 19th-century Florentine hotelier, and her husband have turned her family's former country villa (documented in the 15th century) into a serene hotel outside the city limits. It retains the intimate feel of a single-family home with only five high-ceilinged rooms; some have divine views of Brunelleschi's cupola down below, and others have working fireplaces. Simple landscaped gardens are peaceful. Though a daily shuttle service runs to the center of town, a car is vital.

I am afraid that words will be inadequate to describe our experience at the Villa Poggio San Felice. Lorenzo and Livia have thenselves a gem just outside of Florence. They welcomed us into their charming and lovely Villa as if we were long lost relatives. By the time we left, we felt like one of the family and can't wait to go back and visit again. The Villa has been tastefully renovated and maintained. We stayed in the room of the Little Balcony where the views were exceptional. The area is a ten minute drive from the center of Florence and far enough to disconnect completely from the hustle and bustle of the city. The panoramic views were exceptional, the home cooking memorable and the atmosphere priceless. The shuttle service into the city is adequate to spend the day in and around the museums, but it was nice to have a car to venture around Tuscany. I would highly recommend the Villa to anyone who wants to visit Florence yet experience the hospitality and peacefulness of the suburbs. There is no question we would stay there again the next time we are anywhere near Florence. Que maravilla!!RATING: 5.0
