L'Oca Giuliva

L'Oca Giuliva Review

Food, service, and ambience unite in blissful harmony at this casual yet elegant restaurant minutes from Piazza Repubblica. Enter through a tiny wine bar, where you could pause for glass of wine before proceeding into the restaurant. Two well-appointed rooms in a 12th-century building provide the backdrop for exquisitely prepared local foods—the chef has a deft hand with area specialties, either in tradizionale (traditional) or rivisitata (updated) style. The cappellacci di zucca al ragù (pumpkin-stuffed pasta) might be the best version in town. Meat-and-potatoes folk can opt for the salama da sugo (a salty, garlicky boiled sausage on mashed potatoes); fish-lovers might try the trancio di anguilla (roasted eel) with polenta. For a break from Italian food, the "Bistrot" section of the menu includes tuna burger, on house-made naturally leavened bread. The amazing wine list is complemented by a terrific cheese plate.
