L'Oca Giuliva Review
Food, service, and ambience unite in blissful harmony at this casual yet elegant restaurant minutes from Piazza Repubblica. Enter through a tiny wine bar, where you could pause for glass of wine before proceeding into the restaurant. Two well-appointed rooms in a 12th-century building provide the backdrop for exquisitely prepared local foods—the chef has a deft hand with area specialties, and shines with fish dishes: the scampo saltato su una crema di fave e cime di rape (a sweet crustacean, quickly sautéed, with a fava-bean puree with cooked bitter greens) puts the palate in gear. Dishes such as the gnocchi al cacao con ragù di cervo (cocoa potato gnocchi with a venison sauce) show the chef's fanciful side. If the chestnut ice cream happens to be on the menu, by all means do not miss it. The amazing wine list is complemented by a terrific cheese plate.
