This hotel offers the best of both worlds -- a stunningly romantic park, complete with gilded 19th-century villa, plus a hotel that's 1960s-modern. Up to a decade ago, the latter might have been considered a debit, but now that Sixties Modern has entered the history books, this building is newly chic. In fact, when opened, this striking white-on-white structure raised the bar for 1960s design, thanks to Gio Ponti, Italy's coolest designer of the era. Inside, all is white walls and blue-glass accents; outside blooms the fabled Parco dei Principi, the lush giardino laid out by the Count of Siracusa, cousin to the Neapolitan Bourbons, in the early 19th century. Paths lined with rare Washingtonia palm trees and African marigolds still lead to a romantic Rococo villa, on a terrace over the bay -- today, a splendiferous setting for the hotel's pool area. Long a tour-group favorite, this hotel is usually jammed and is joyously festive as a result.
