Amalfi Coast and Capri: By Train

By Train

The two main train stations serving the Amalfi Coast are Salerno and Sorrento. Conveniently, the stations are also hubs for cheap, efficient bus services radiating toward the major tourist destinations along the coast and inland.

The State Railway train stops in Salerno on the Milan-Reggio Calabria line. The station here is an excellent starting point for buses to the Amalfi Coast, although most travelers head there from Naples and Capri and thus avail themselves of the SITA buses departing from the train station in Sorrento. They get to Sorrento via the famous Circumvesuviana railway, which runs along the curve of the Bay of Naples from Naples to Sorrento. The Circumvesuviana departs from the Circumvesuviana train station and runs approximately every half hour from Sorrento to Naples; some trains are express, only stopping at major stations, returning in the reverse order. Round-trip fares are EUR 6.40 for Sorrento to Naples. In Sorrento the train station is opposite Piazza Lauro and a five-minute walk from Piazza Tasso.
