Nora Barnacle House

Nora Barnacle House Review

On June 16, 1904, James Joyce (1882-1941) had his first date with Nora Barnacle, who would later become his wife. He subsequently chose to set Ulysses on this day, now known universally as Bloomsday—"a recognition of the determining effect upon his life of his attachment to her," as Joyce's biographer Richard Ellman has said. Nora, the daughter of a poor baker, was born here. Today it has a modest collection of photographs, letters, and memorabilia, and a small gift shop.
