Among private, wooded grounds overlooking Bantry Bay, you'll find this large, three-story, 19th-century country house. Owner-manager Kathleen O'Sullivan keeps an eagle eye on what was, until 1980, her private home and today remains an oasis of calm, nestled in its own gardens well away from the main road. Antique furniture, plump sofas, polished brass, and ornate curtains provide comfort and elegance. Some bedrooms have sea views and small sofas in bay windows; others have views of the wooded gardens. In the dining room, polished tables are set with crocheted mats and linen napkins; service is friendly and informal. Pros: unostentatious comfort; good food; low-key, friendly service. Cons: make your own entertainment; "village" is more a suburb of Bantry, with only one pub.

The Sea View House Hotel is in a beautiful setting. It is one of the friendliest places I have stayed in Ireland. Kathleen makes sure that she greets every guest. The food was very good and the room was nice. I did think it was a little small, but definitely workable. Overall, a top notch hotel.
