Meadowlands

  • Price range: $$-$$$
  • Location: Tralee

Fodor's Review:

In a quiet suburb on the road to Listowel, 10 minutes' walk from Tralee's city center, this lively luxury hotel is turreted like a French château and done up in exuberant, sumptuously stylish decor. Touches of nouvelle country-house style are everywhere, from the grand barrel-vaulted reception area to the two-story bar, which has a balcony library. A light bar menu is offered here, but for the full treatment, repair to the restaurant, a cozy bedazzlement of stonework, timber beams, and stone pillars. The large and exceptionally comfortable guest rooms are decorated with dark-wood, Victorian-style furniture and plaster cornices on the ceilings. The hotel is popular with golfers, who generally find the small extra fee for upgrading to an even larger room with two double beds well worth it. A festive, friendly, and stylish place, Meadowlands turns up the charm on weekends, when the bar hosts live music. Pros: friendly staff; good standard of comfort; ample parking. Cons: the faux old-time look can feel contrived; suburban location not the most exciting (but better than downtown Tralee on weekends, where crowds of drinkers roam).
