Hidden away on a tiny side street is one of Cork's favorite restaurants. Its windowless interior, with its warm terra-cotta walls and curved Art Deco-style bar, is carefully lighted to soothe and make you forget the world outside. Sisters Jacque and Eithne Barry have run the place for 25 years, and know their business. Food is always sourced locally from artisan food producers, so it's as fresh and wholesome as it comes. Eithne's cooking lets the flavor shine through, whether in a starter of fresh crab and baby spinach salad, or a main course of roast mallard on chard with orange and bacon. For dessert try the fruited bread-and-butter pudding, or indulge in a chocolate and hazelnut torte. There's a special-value early dinner menu from 6 PM, and on Sunday a light menu is served from 4:30 PM.
