An Bhlaskaoid Mhóir (Blasket Islands)

Fodor's Review:

The largest of the An Bhlaskaoid Mhóir (Blasket Islands) visible from Ceann Sleibne, the Great Blasket was inhabited until 1953. The Blasket islanders were great storytellers and were encouraged by Irish linguists to write their memoirs. The Islandman, by Tomás O Crohán, gives a vivid picture of a hard way of life. "Their likes will not be seen again," O Crohán poignantly observed. The Blasket Centre explains the heritage of these islanders and celebrates their use of the Irish language with videos and exhibitions.
