Expect the best seafood in Killarney from the Belgian owner-chef Gert Maes, who celebrates 40 years in business here during 2016. Behind the rustic exterior is a little bar beside an open fire; steps lead up to the main dining area, where ornate wooden stick-back chairs match a huge wooden dresser. In summer you can sip an aperitif in the small garden. Try the seafood platter (seven or eight kinds of fish in a cream-and-wine sauce) or lobster Gaby (shelled, simmered in a cream-and-cognac sauce, and served back in the shell). Turbot, salmon, and sole are also regular menu items, along with a selection of beef fillet and sirloin steaks, au poivre or with garlic butter, and herb-scented rack of lamb.
