Swans will be a leitmotif of your visit to Sligo: you will come across them in Yeats's poetry, see them in the Garavogue River, find them folded in the shape of white napkins and depicted taking flight on the walls of Eala Bhán (meaning "White Swan") restaurant. The decor is modern but comfortable, and the food is Irish with a French twist. Steak and seafood—monkfish, surf 'n' turf, reef 'n' beef—are prominent on the evening dinner menu, as well as vegetarian dishes. The Early Bird menu (5-6:30) is good value with a choice of two or three courses, including, for mains, "posh" fish-and-chips (cooked in tempura and with pea puree), beef burgers, or chicken-and-wild-mushroom pappardelle. Don't let the preening swans, visible from the dining-room window, distract you from the dessert menu.
