Imaginative food and a warm welcome await at this 300-year old thatched country pub and restaurant 2 km (1 mile) south of Birr, just off the N62 Roscrea road. Inexpensive meals are available at lunchtime (Fri.–Sun. only) and early evening (4 to 7:30); later at night, the restaurant offers a choice of a five-course dinner menu or an à la carte menu. Pigeon and rabbit terrines, loin of pork and sirloin steaks with mushrooms in garlic sauce vie for diners' attention with more exotic dishes such as kangaroo and locally farmed ostrich. The pub is run by Des Connole who brings a long pedigree since he is the sixth generation of his family to own it.
