East Belfast was a gastronomic wilderness until this cool modernist restaurant opened. Now city-center folk regularly make the pilgrimage to take advantage of an opulent menu and wine list at comparably reasonable prices. The set dinner menus Monday to Thursday are particularly good value—£22 for three courses. Lunch is an informal affair—traditional pork and leek sausages with mash-and-onion gravy, fillet of salmon or minute steak—but dinner tarts up with such tasty treats as roast baby chicken with tabbouleh and broad beans, or spicy fried plaice with Asian coleslaw. With its great atmosphere, gentle prices, perpetually friendly staff, and fine food, it's little wonder that Aldens has scooped several top awards in recent years, including the prestigious Bridgestone accolade. This is a good time-out if visiting the Parliament buildings at Stormont Castle.

Have been a loyal customer of Aldens since it opened, having spent many memorable enjoyable evenings and special occasions in the restaurant. Unfortunately we have noticed the service deteriorating. The service has lost its polish and style and the it deteriorates rapidly after the main course is served. I have written to the Manager and Owner twice, trying to get a response to a complaint and they have totally ignored the letters. A telephone call to the Manager got a response of indifference. There seems to be no recognition for loyal customers. I will not be back.
