Big, bad (meaning good, of course) steaks are the guilty-pleasure draw at this American-style steakhouse. Happily, quantity doesn't necessarily diminish quality and Shanahan's arguably serves the best beef in the country, all certified Irish Angus, of course. The building itself is an Irish Georgian glory, designed by Richard Cassels, Dublin's leading 18th-century architect. Glowing with gilded chandeliers and graced with a few marble fireplaces, this restored town house offers a sleekly elegant setting in which to chow down on some of the tenderest beef this side of Kobe (they cook it in a special high-temperature oven, searing the outside to keep the inside good and juicy). If steak doesn't float your boat, they also do a mean sautéed Dover sole with parsley Ratte potatoes and a petite herb salad. Oreo-cookie-crust cheesecake is the perfect way to finish off the feast, but many will consider the decor—think sash windows, gilt mirrors, and plush carpets—rich enough.

This is probably the best steak in Dulin and you will pay for it...but its worth the experience. i went for my Birthday last June and we could never ask for such wonderful service and a stunning meal. We had Champagne in the Oval office which is a bar doenstairs and waiting area. You can eat here too but not as nice as upstairs. We were led to the first floor to a lovely table facing an outsoor roof garden it seemed.
I Split the Ceasar salad for a started...it was HUGE...all postions here are massive compared to european portions. I also had the filet steqk and we ordered sides of creamed corn and onion rings. I have never seen onion rings like this very thin on a mound of them and so tasty. Again there was loads in one portion. I skipped desert and the came out with 4 glasses of champagne on the house and a plate of small chocs for me. The service is not stuffy and very fun and friendly. It was a highlight meal of last year for me. Its pricey and you must book well in advance. Loved it!
