Jökulsárgljúfur National Park

Jökulsárgljúfur National Park Review

Contiguous with Ásbyrgi is the wild and magnificent Jökulsárgljúfur National Park, the rugged canyon of the glacial Jökulsá River. At the southernmost point of the park, on Route 864, see Europe's most powerful waterfall, Dettifoss, where on average 212 tons of water cascades each second over a 145-foot drop. Farther inland at Kverkfjöll, hot springs rise at the edge of the Vatnajökull ice cap, creating spectacular ice caves that can collapse at any time; so resist entering. Tours operate from Húsavík.
