Fodor's Review

The exterior certainly betrays the hotel's 1970s origins, but the modern and tasteful rooms and great views from Castle Hill will soothe the most delicate of aesthetic sensibilities. You'll have to decide for yourself if this hotel, built in 1977 around the remains of a 17th-century Gothic chapel and adjacent to the Matthias Church, is a successful integration or not. Rooms with the best Danube vistas cost more. VAT and tourist tax are not included in the rates.

Great Service and Location

Stayed on the Executive Floor. Room was very good, but, the service in the Executive Lounge was OUTSTANDING. Only minus was the hot foods were luke warm at best. All other food and drink items were excellent. Say hello to Tibor......he is GREAT!

Ideal for the castle & a short break

Despite being based on top of Castle Hill in Buda it is easy to reach Pest. There are several bus stops within five minutes walk, with either the 16 or 16a going to Moskva ter with underground & tram connections. The Hilton doesn`t operate a free shuttle to the airport at the moment. If you have a Budapest card you get a discount in the lobby bar but not the restaurant.

Declining Excellence, Major Taxi Problems

My room wasn't up to Hilton excellence. The TV side of the king bed was worn out but the other side was fine. Shower spray was weak. No one got back to me. Front desk said I could depart one day early without penalty. Later they said no one would allow this. I found "no one" and he acknowledged his previous approval. Beware taxi driver charges at the Hilton and elsewhere in Budapest!!! Hilton taxi drivers charge double or quadruple the standard taxi

rate because they are Mercedes. Some of the Mercedes were downright uncomfortable. Concierge will call an inexpensive taxi if you wish. Hilton location is either excellent or boring depending on your interests. The charm of the Hilton area quickly wore off and I moved closer to the action downtown. I am an experienced world traveler.

Highly recommended

Without a doubt one of my most memorable stays. This is the only full service hotel in the castle district which is so charming and special you wouldn't want to stay anywhere else. Rooms are extremely comfortable and our room had a water boiler with coffee and tea bags, iron and board, separate shower and spacious tub, and an incredible view of the river and Parliament buildng. The service was outstanding and thought you need a taxi to go anywhere

into town (except for the Castle district), the doormen are excellent and negotiate with the taxi drivers so you won't get cheated. Though they are guilding a Four Seasons across the river, I don't think any hotel can take the place of this well run charmer in such a unique setting.
