Castro

Castro Review

The biggest surprise here may be that—despite the name—the specialty at this communist-theme bar and restaurant is Serbian, not Cuban, food. It's crowded, it's smoky, but there's a fun vibe of Magyar teen spirit. Tasty pleskavica (spicy hamburgers) and cevapcici (spicy meatballs) are served all day to a largely student crowd, who come mainly for the cheap draft beer. Ask for the ajvar (sweet red-pepper and garlic pesto) with everything. Non-smokers take note: the owners have opened the smoke-free Castro Bisztro right next door. It's always crowded, though, so make a reservation.
