Erzsébet híd (Elizabeth Bridge)

Erzsébet híd (Elizabeth Bridge) Review

This bridge was named for Empress Elizabeth (1837-98), called Sissi, of whom the Hungarians were particularly fond. The beautiful but unhappy wife of Franz Joseph, she was stabbed to death in 1898 by an anarchist while boarding a boat on Lake Geneva. The bridge was built between 1897 and 1903; at the time, it was the longest single-span suspension bridge in Europe.
