Semmelweis Orvostörténeti Múzeum (Semmelweis Museum of Medical History)

Semmelweis Orvostörténeti Múzeum (Semmelweis Museum of Medical History) Review

This splendid baroque house was the birthplace of Ignác Semmelweis (1818–65), the Hungarian physician who proved the contagiousness of puerperal (childbed) fever. It's now a museum that traces the history of healing. Semmelweis's grave is in the garden. Just to the left is a bust of József Antall, a former director of the museum who went on to serve as Hungary's first prime minister in the post-communist era, from 1990 until he succumbed to cancer three years later.
