Baraka
Baraka Review
The new digs for this celebrated Budapest restaurant couldn't be more inviting. The leafy outside terrace looks onto majestic Andrássy út and Heroes Square; the spacious interior dining room is all grown-up big-city glamour. Dimmed crystal chandeliers, sleek black tables, and massive vases filled with calla lillies suggest a sophisticated evening in store. Expect innovative seasonal dishes like caramelized Belgian endive with fresh peaches, and blue-cheese and sweet-corn bisque, as well as creative fish courses. Prices match the ambition of the place, but there's a reasonable two-course lunch special daily.

This has to be one of the most appalling restaurants in Budapest. I have been here for three weeks now and have experienced some fabulous cuisine in this fascinating city. This restaurant, which unfortunately is attached to the very hotel I am staying in, lacks any sense of grace. The food is ostentatious and hugely over-priced; the ambience sterile; and the service is without doubt the most disdainful in the whole of Budapest. Tonight, the restaurant was full to bursting and still lacked any atmosphere. It is virtually the first time in the three weeks I have been here that I have seen anybody patronising the establishment. I would thoroughly discourage anybody from booking a table here when there are so many wonderful restaurants in town. Never again!

This was a special dinner on the last night of our vacation, and the ambiance and service lived up to that. The food was quite good, and met the standards of any fine restaurant in any city.
Even though I had read the descriptions and sample menus, the cuisine had a more Asian feel that we had anticipated. That was fine with me; I like all Asian food, but my husband would have preferred less of that. The food was well prepared and presented. -
