Fodor's Review

Somebody's clever vision of a 1970s-style communist-era cafeteria right in the heart of trendy Liszt Ferenc tér is a big hit. Details like retro table settings, orange and olive green Formica, and the very worst in communist lighting design miraculously come together to give this place a cool hipster vibe. Quirky dishes like homemade Hungarian soups served with cereal croutons get a giggle from most diners, and greasy childhood treats like langós (fried dough) get reinvented and stuffed with chicken and mushrooms. In spite of the grooviness, there's good old-fashioned Hungarian comfort food here and pretty attentive, non–communist-era service. Check out the Kádár-era soft-drink list at the bar, and try meggy marka, a surprisingly refreshing sour cherry soda.

An outstanding experience

One of my favorite places to eat! You could be in the heart of Paris or any other Western European city... The food is more Hungarian then anything else well prepared and tastefully presented. I have yet to have a meal that has not been excellent. The mixed drinks are also good although they tend to be better at the bar than at the tables.

good food and great fun

we arrived for our 7:30 reservation to find a prime table on the patio. Though the staff spoke fluent English, those around us were all Hungarian With the exception of their cherry soup - which as a little sweeter than we are used to, the 6 of us all enjoyed the various dishes we had. The service was professional, and the atmosphere - on the patio - nice. Caution on sitting inside in the summer, as it was too hot.. highly suggested - one

of our favorites in our 5 day visit.
