Grecotel Cape Sounio

Athens–Sounion Ave. Km 67, Sounion, Attica, 19500, Greece

One of the most elaborate hotels in Greece, this showpiece—looking a bit like a Greek temple left over from a spectacular Cecil B. DeMille movie set—perches amid the verdant pine forest of Sounion National Park: the stunning bay view includes a picture-perfect castle-fort and the Temple of Sounion itself. Accommodations here range from bungalows to villas, and all are arranged in tiers along a hill, to embrace the coast and maximize sea views. Floor-to-ceiling sliding glass doors open onto walk-out terraces, many facing southeast toward the Temple of Poseidon; some have private pools. If you don't want to leave the comfort of your bungalow or villa, just order from the 24-hour room service menu, but few can resist the restaurant's front-row terrace over the bay. The octagonal glass-wall spa and fitness center overlooks the sea, and on the two bays below the hotel is a private beach, with water-sports rentals available. On tap in the Cavo Colones restaurant is a fine menu with great Cretan and organic dishes (with six other dining options on site). Children are in luck with a full array of delightful morning and afternoon activities and mini-adventures at the Grecoland park.
