Byzantine Museum

Byzantine Museum Review

The only intact mosque in this part of the Aegean, complete with a slender minaret, houses the Byzantine Museum, which has been under renovation for years. It holds a tugra (the swirling monogram of the sultan that indicated royal possession), rarely seen outside Istanbul; its presence indicated the favor Chios once enjoyed under the sultan. Housed inside are the Jewish, Turkish, and Armenian gravestones leaning with age in the courtyard.
