Founded in 1790 in a building 100 years older, this ouzeri (ouzo bar, though the sign calls it a kafeneio, or coffeehouse) is where local and visiting artists, poets, and politicians prefer to sip their ouzo on a vine-shaded terrace, with marble-top tables. You might try octopus in wine sauce, long-cooked chickpeas, or homemade sausages. The interior, a popular gathering spot in winter, provides a glimpse of traditional Lesbos design with old wood and mirrors. The long-standing hangout has similarly long hours: from 6 in the morning until the last person leaves at night.
