Aris Talaris

This is actually two shops: one sells quality silver jewelry made in Talaris's own workshop, and the other displays gold pieces. The Metsovo silverwork trade is one of the oldest in the region; members of the Talaris family have been silversmiths for many generations (and now they have branched out as hoteliers, owning the hotel where their shops are).

Center of Traditional Handcraft of Ioannina (Kepavi)

A silversmiths' cooperative, Kepavii sells the silverware and jewelery produced by 44 regional workshops. Items vary in style and technique, including many traditional Epirote pieces as well as some interesting modern ones. The prices are good, and there's something to suit all pockets. You can also take a tour of some of the workshops and watch the smiths practicing their fine skills.

Divanis Gallery

Peruse regional collectibles and memorabilia spanning a few centuries up to the present day. Expert and enthusiast, Dimitris, has been scouring the country for over 30 years for local heirlooms, so even if you're not interested in purchasing anything, this shop is still worth a little of your time.

Pagouri est. in Ioannina

This is a really interesting and modern little gift shop, with handmade and painted objects like sunglasses, tote bags and clutches, painted postcards, and lighting frames of the town made by local artists. They also sell herbal olive oil soaps.

Pigi

This colorful shop overflows with cheeses of all shapes and sizes. Metsovo is renowned for its cheese, and you will find any local variety your heart (or palate) desires, from the smoky metsovitico ewe's and cow's milk cheese to the zingy metsovela and even a local Parmesan that rivals any from Italy.

Near the Hotel Egnatia, the shop of Vangelis Balabekos sells traditional clothing from Epirus and other areas of Greece.

On Nissi, you will find a handful of quaint little stores selling replicas of traditional objects, such as Turkish water pipes and ornate knives, silver pillboxes encrusted with semiprecious stones, ceramic vases, and jewelry. Those interested in more-original work should head here, to the only boutique that creates unique, handmade pieces.
