Fodor's Expert Review Palazzino di Corina

Damvergi and Diakou, Rethymnon, Crete, 74100, Greece

Rethymnon has several hotels occupying old palaces, but Corina is one of the most handsome, with pleasant, stylish surroundings that include a nicely planted courtyard surrounding a small plunge pool. Set over three floors, comfortable guest rooms, many with exposed-stone walls and wooden beams, are furnished with a mix of antiques and contemporary pieces. Though the hotel is set in the middle of the Old Town and the beach is a short stroll away, the side-street location seems to be a world removed.

PROS

  • beautiful courtyard is a perfect place to relax
  • most rooms are extremely quiet

  • informal, helpful staff
  • attached restaurant in pretty cloister next door

CONS

  • some rooms on upper floors require a climb
  • street-facing rooms are the noisiest
  • not all rooms have balconies
