For the rest of the destinations, if you can't rent a car, the next most efficient mode of travel is the regional KTEL bus system in combination with taxis.

The extensive network serves all points in Attica from Athens, and local buses connect the smaller towns and villages at least daily.

KTEL buses for eastern Attica leave hourly from their main station in downtown Athens (Aigyptou Square at the corner of Mavromateon and Leoforos Alexandras).

You can also catch this bus from Klathmonos Square or on Filellinon.

KTEL buses depart regularly for Marathon (EUR 3.40), Ayia Marina (stopping at Rhamnous on the way; EUR 4.70), and Sounion (EUR 5.70).

The Greek National Tourism Organization (EOT) distributes a list of bus schedules, as does the Athens Main terminal in Aigyptou Square.

KTEL buses servicing western Attica depart from Terminal B in Athens.

To Delphi (via Arachova), there are six departures, beginning at 7:30 am. The journey takes about three hours and costs EUR 13.

Four buses daily make the four-hour trip to Galaxidi, starting at 7:30 am; the fare is EUR 16.

Buses depart hourly from 5:50 am to 8:30 pm for Distomo near Osios Loukas; the journey takes 2½ hours and costs EUR 12.80.

Note that the prices above are one-way fares.

To get to Terminal B from downtown Athens, catch Bus 24 on Amalias in front of the National Garden.

Tickets for these buses are sold only at this terminal.
