Ta Patitiria tou Mpairaktari
Ta Patitiria tou Mpairaktari Review
This traditional, well-preserved taverna is located on the major throughway Marathonos avenue, but the renovated former wine-press ("patitiri") stone building is surrounded in its own greenery, maintaining coolness and serenity. Owner Stefanos Mpairaktaris, a skilled craftsman and culinary fan, took a hands-on approach to shifting the decades-old (since 1948) family focus on wine towards food. In the taverna with white embroidered curtains and a stone fireplace, he's worked on details including the vine motif painted onto wood chairs and branch candleholders. Try the stuffed potato tis Yiayias (Granny's), the spicy pork with peppers, the ewe cooked in a clay pot, and game (during hunting season).
