Language in Athens

All Greeks are taught English in public school, and most retain at least a rudimentary knowledge. In Athens, you can expect to find decent English spoken in mid-range to high-end hotels, restaurants, shops, and most tourist sights. A fair number of taxi drivers speak some English; those that do are usually happy to show it off. Despite this, though, you may be surprised at some places where English does not seem to be spoken—at several offices of the Greek National Tourism Organization, for example.
