O Skoufias

O Skoufias Review

This pretty taverna has some of the best food in town—and at reasonable prices. Menus are the royal-blue lined notebooks used by Greek schoolchildren; the proprietors have handwritten the Cretan-inspired offerings on the pages. Enjoy Skoufias's signature honey-roasted pork shank, or Sfakian (i.e., from the town of Sfakia) lamb with manouri cheese, which is so tender it just falls off the bone, at one of the tables outside. Other excellent choices include braised beef with eggplant puree (hunikiar beyianti, as it is called), wild-greens pie, potato salad with orange peels and herbs, and syrupy ravani cake with mastic-flavor kaimaki ice cream. On weekends O Skoufias is open for both lunch and dinner.
