Fodor's Expert Review Karavitis

$$ Pangrati Greek
This very traditional taverna has been around since 1926 and doesn't seem to have changed a bit in that span, serving classic, well-prepared Greek cuisine. Pungent tirokafteri (a peppery cheese dip), stamnaki (beef baked in a clay pot), and bekri mezes (lamb in a zesty tomato sauce) are among the taverna's specialty. The winter dining room maintains its prewar ambience and is insulated with huge wine casks; in summer there is garden seating in a patio across the street (get there early so you don't end up at the noisy sidewalk tables).
