This upscale hotel on the forested slopes of Mt. Lycabettus, in happening Kolonaki, is steps from Athens's museum row and designer shops. Most front rooms have excellent views of the Acropolis (although some do not, so make sure you ask for an outside room). The rooftop pool bar, with its small pool and Le Grand Balcon restaurant have an unbeatable panoramic view. Downstairs, the postmodern 1970s-style bar restaurant Frame also serves tasty Asian-inspired food. The hotel also has a great spa.

The way this hotel is described, it's like this is the most wonderful hotel ever. It's ok. The breakfast and the view from the restaurant it's in are great (bring your camera to breakfast.) But the rooms are so-so - very typical European hotel rooms. The staff is a bit snarly but it is Greece, after all. From the reviews I thought I'd get a little more. Beware if you're adverse to exercise - the climb to the hotel from just about anywhere is
a bit of a workout.
