Walls lined with autographed photos of actors from the nearby Odeon of Herodes Atticus attest to Strofi's success with the after-theater crowd that flocks to the Greek festival. Despite the strong following among tourists, the renovated rooftop garden with dramatic views of the lighted Acropolis still attracts locals who have been coming here for decades. In fact, the amazing views come close to stealing the show, although the cuisine comes a very close second. Start with some mezedes, including the smoked eggplant salad or a velvety tzatziki, which perfectly complements the baked zucchini. For the main course, choose roast lamb wrapped in vine leaves and stuffed with cheese, the rooster in wine sauce served with Greek pasta, or a variety platter of specially grilled meats. Reservations are essential for the rooftop garden with the famed Acropolis view.

My Greek husband went crazy over this restaurant when we visited Athens in August of 2013. After the first time eating here, he would not hear of eating anywhere else! Four days in Athens, four times to Strofi. The Greek classics are executed beautifully with just slight twists to modernize and lighten. Service is spectacular, whereas other Athenian restaurants - not so much. We sampled most of their menu and nothing disappointed. The house wine (red)
was delicious and the prices very reasonable. The setting is the real standout however, the majestic acropolis appears to be just a few feet away and never fails to enchant.
