Fodor's Review

Founded way back in 1898, this is one of the few remaining Plaka tavernas serving reliably good food as well as having the obligatory mulberry-shaded terrace (with excellent Acropolis views). The previous owners (the taverna is now run by a well-known family of Greek restaurateurs) claimed to have served Brigitte Bardot and Laurence Olivier, but it's the number of Greeks who come here that testifies to Psarra's (aka the Fisherman's Tavern) appeal. Oil-oregano marinated octopus and gavros (a small fish) are good appetizers. Simple, tasty entrées include rooster in wine, arnaki pilino (lamb baked in clay pots), and pork chops with ouzo. Can't make up your mind? Try the ouzokatastasi ("ouzo situation"), a plate of tidbits to nibble while you decide. A bit hard to find, it's definitely worth the effort.
