When to Go

The Bodensee's temperate climate makes for pleasant weather from April to October. In spring orchard blossoms explode everywhere, and on Mainau, the "island of flowers," more than a million tulips, hyacinths, and narcissi burst into bloom. Holiday crowds come in summer, and autumn can be warm and mellow. Quite a few hotels and restaurants in the smaller resort towns as well as many tourist attractions close for the winter.
