There are two interesting museums in this town northwest of Chiemsee. In the Museum für Deutsche Automobilgeschichte the display of 220 automobiles begins with an 1886 Benz and culminates in contemporary models; items on display range from the BMW 250 Isetta—the "rolling egg"—to a 600-hp 935 Porsche. The world's largest small-gauge model-railway panorama is also spread out here over nearly 6,000 square feet. Wasserburger Str. 38. 08075/8141. www.efa-automuseum.de. EUR 8. Late Mar.-Oct., Tues.-Sun. 10-6; last entry at 5. The Bauernhausmuseum consists of four beautiful farmhouses with a bakery, beehives, sawmill, and blacksmith's workshop. It's worth seeing to find out more about everyday life in the Chiemgau over the last several hundred years. The oldest building in the cluster is from 1525. Every Sunday afternoon an 85-year-old roper shows off his craft, as does a lace maker. On alternate Sundays, spinning, felt making, and blacksmithing are demonstrated. You can take in the idyllic surroundings from the beer garden. Im Hopfgarten. 08075/915-090. www.bauernhausmuseum-amerang.de. EUR 3. Mid-Mar.-Nov. 5, Tues.-Sun. 9-6; last entry at 5.
