To reach Quedlinburg in the Harz, you can take E–49 directly, or take a somewhat longer route via E–80, stopping in Eisleben first. Martin Luther came into and out of the world here: both the square Franconian house with the high-pitched roof that was his birthplace (Luthers Geburtshaus) and the Gothic patrician house where he died (Luthers Sterbehaus) are open to the public, as are, on request, the St. Petri-Pauli Kirche (Church of Sts. Peter
and Paul), where he was baptized, and the St. Andreaskirche (St. Andrew's Church), where his funeral was held. From Eisleben take B–180 north to join with E–49 to Quedlinburg.
