Westin Grand München Review

The building itself, with 22 floors, may raise a few eyebrows. It stands on a slight elevation and is not the shapeliest of the Munich skyline. What goes on inside, however, is sheer five-star luxury. Guests of the top four floors, the Tower Rooms and Suites, are greeted with a glass of champagne; snacks, drinks, and a fantastic view of the city and the Bavarian Alps are available in the Towers Lounge. Room service is available around the clock. There are several spots within the hotel to eat, including ZEN, which serves Pan-Asian food, and Paulaner's Wirtshaus, which also has a biergarten. If you want to add a special Bavarian flavor to your stay, book one of the 60 "Bavarian rooms" on the 15th and the 16th floors with antique wood furniture and a country feel.

    Class and Comfort

    I opened the door to my room, and there it was in the flesh, all shiny and sparkly…almost as good as Richard Gere in "An Officer and a Gentleman"…almost as good as a warm bath on a Minnesnowta winter night…almost as good as the last cookie in the cookie jar…the Heavenly Bed. I'm pretty sure I heard angels singing. You had better believe I took a running jump into that bed (sorry Westin management, if you're reading)! After a long flight, I needed a nap. And boy, what I nap I took! I slept like I have never slept before. I actually bought a Westin bed after coming home from this trip. Now I realize this is turning into a review about the bed, and not the hotel, but when you are as tired as I was, your bloodshot eyes only see the bed.

    When I woke up later that night, I was finally able to appreciate the rest of the room. It was spacious, modern, clean, and made me feel pampered with all the extra amenities. I'm pretty sure I squealed with delight in my enjoyment of pulling out all of the closet drawers to see what surprise lurked behind each one. In this room I felt like my salary had an extra zero in it. In this room, I would drink my peppermint tea with my pinky held high. This hotel is all about class and comfort.

    I also need to mention the Paulaner Bräuhaus in the basement of this hotel. We enjoyed wine with our dinner in the lovely and relaxing garden seating area of this restaurant one night--what a treat! I am all for eating Schnitzel and Schnitzel only when in Germany, and the Schnitzel here did not disappoint!
