There are far too few organic restaurants in Munich, so it's great news for the eco-conscious that the 2009-opened Daylesford Organic has firmly established itself in the culinary life of the city. All ingredients are locally sourced in Bavaria, and the carefully chosen building, dating from 1264, with vaulted ceilings and white-washed walls, is the perfect city center location. The atmosphere is barlike informal, and it's possible to mix and match from a selection of starters and salads. The food is not overcomplicated, exemplified by the good Daylesford steak sandwich main meal, with delicious balsamic onions, ghurkin, and tomato, in a light sauce. The restaurant also serves as a shop, selling a range of broadly artisanal, independent-produced goods, from foods to hand lotions, all adhering to the environmental strictures the company promotes.
