Set right down on the Isar a bit upstream from town, this attractive zoo has many parklike enclosures but a minimum of cages. Some of the older buildings are in typical art nouveau style. Care has been taken to group animals according to their natural and geographical habitats. The Urwaldhaus (Rain-Forest House) offers guided tours at night (call ahead of time). The 170 acres include restaurants and children's areas. Take Bus 52 from Marienplatz or U-bahn 3 to Thalkirchen, at the southern edge of the city.

The zoo officials do deserve a word of praise for the care they are taking of animals. The habbitat that has been provided to the animal is very close their natural habbitat. Temperature, humidity, noise levels ambience all was close their natural.. The only bad part of the zoo was that everything was in German language.. not even a single write-up in English. Well this has been the problem in whole of my europe trip.
Dont miss any of the huts or houses.. they are the enclosure with some special animals who need different climatic conditions than what prevail in the city
