Biederstein Review

A modern, block of a building, but covered with geraniums in summer, the Biederstein seems to want to fit into its old Schwabing surroundings at the edge of the English Garden. The many advantages here: peace and quiet; excellent service; and comfortable, well-appointed and renovated rooms. The breakfast buffet costs €9.50 extra but is worth it, and there is free WiFi throughout.

Nothing charming about our stay at the Biederstein. The renovation mentioned by Fodor's review surely was not recent. When we arrived, the clerk informed us that crews were working on the balconies and she politely asked if they could access our room/balcony while we were away the next day. We agreed but, after spending one night, decided to check out early the next day. Our room needed a good painting to cover the many fingerprints and scuff marks on the walls. There was trash in the bathroom bin leftover from the prior guests (including an open cat food can), the balcony looked like it had not been swept in weeks, hinges on the balcony and closet doors were akimbo and - the clincher - our room was directly across from two large construction projects where crews noisily arrived at 6:45am. On the bright side, the linens were clean and tidy and the location was close to many shops and restaurants of the tony Schwabing quarter of Munich. This could be a wonderful little hotel but it definitely needs additional renovation or at least some serious TLC.
