Alter Markt Review

Once dominated by the city's baroque palace, Alter Markt was heavily destroyed by Allied bombing in World War II and then blown up by the East German regime in 1960. Reminiscent of a similar debate in Berlin, Potsdam, too, has decided to rebuild its palace; the reconstructed structure will house the state parliament. Thanks to private donors, the first element, a magnificent replica of the Fortunaportal, now stands proudly on the square, while the palace's main sections are currently being built in a combination of modern and historic elements.
