The appeal of this late-19th-century apartment house with a leafy courtyard is its location in a lively neighborhood marked by the streets Mehringdamm and Bergmannstrasse. The richly decorated facade hints that 100 years ago the aristocratic officers of Germany's imperial army lived here. Rooms with low-lying beds are spartanly modern, quiet, and functional. Downstairs is a light-filled lounge and restaurant. In less than five minutes you can reach the subway that speeds you to Mitte and the Friedrichstrasse train station.

The Riehmers Hofgarten is a small hotel with a lot of charm and comfort. The neighborhood is off the tourist path, so you feel more as if you are living in Berlin. The manager and staff are lovely.
